Bathroom Renovation Questions, Answered Straight

What does a bathroom renovation cost?

It depends on the room's current state, the materials you choose, the layout, and any extra features. Full renovations with Bathroom Renovators typically range from $25,000 to $45,000, and smaller jobs (a shower rebuild, a fixture refresh, a partial upgrade) cost less. A free in-home consultation gets you an accurate estimate for your bathroom, not a generic figure.

Do you only do full renovations, or smaller jobs too?

Both. Full renovations are one part of what we do. We also handle leaking shower repairs, tiling and waterproofing, fixture and vanity refreshes, and smaller layout changes. If you're not sure whether your job fits, get in touch and we'll tell you straight away.

How soon can you come and have a look?

In-home consultations are usually available within the week, and we can often prioritise urgent issues like an active leak. Call or fill in the contact form and we'll confirm the next available time.

What kind of warranty do you provide?

A 5-year workmanship warranty on all bathroom renovations and repairs, plus 5-year producer's statements for plumbing supplies and 5-year product warranties on selected fixtures and fittings. If something's not right, we come back and fix it.

How much experience do you have with bathroom renovations?

Over 25 years renovating and repairing bathrooms across greater Wellington. That's a lot of leaking showers diagnosed, small bathrooms redesigned, and older homes worked around.

What is your typical process for a bathroom renovation?

It starts with a free in-home consultation, so we can see the space and understand what you need. We then provide a customised quote. Once you approve it, we coordinate demolition, plumbing, electrical work, flooring, walls, cabinetry, tiling, painting and a final inspection before handover.

How long do bathroom renovations typically take?

Most full renovations take 4 to 6 weeks depending on scope. Smaller jobs, like a fixture refresh or partial upgrade, are usually quicker. We confirm a realistic timeframe with your quote.

Are you licensed, insured and certified?

Yes. Bathroom Renovators is fully licensed and insured, and our tradespeople are certified, experienced professionals.

What is your design approach?

It depends on what your bathroom needs: a cosmetic refresh (new flooring, cabinetry fronts, fixtures), a layout change to make better use of a small space, or a full custom design with architectural plans for a major renovation. We work with you to find the right approach for your space and your budget, including honest advice on what's worth spending on and what isn't.

What are some of the challenges of bathroom renovation?

The most common ones: finding a design that suits the age and style of the home, dealing with water damage or faulty plumbing uncovered once we open things up, keeping the schedule on track, and minimising disruption to your household. With 25+ years of experience, we plan for these upfront rather than discovering them halfway through.

Do you use subcontractors?

No. Our in-house team of tradespeople and project managers handles every stage of your renovation. That means one point of accountability, not a rotating cast of subcontractors.

Do I need council consent for a tiled shower replacement?

If you're installing a new tiled shower where one didn't exist, or adding a sanitary fixture, consent is usually required. We confirm what applies to your job and manage the application if needed.

Can a leaking shower be fixed by re-grouting only?

Re-grouting or fresh silicone can buy you some time, but if the waterproofing membrane underneath has failed, the leak will come back. We diagnose the actual cause first and recommend the most cost-effective long-term fix, which isn't always a full rebuild.

How long does a leaking shower rebuild take?

Most leak-free rebuilds take 1 to 2 weeks once underway, depending on tile choice and how much needs replacing. We confirm the timeline as part of your quote.
